Nora and the Time Studio: The Witch of the Misty Forest is a role-playing game developed and published by Atlus for the Nintendo DS, released in Japan in July 2011 as one of the final first-party titles for the platform. Sixteen-year-old Nora Brandor arrives in the mist-shrouded town of Temperina to complete a three-year training rite for her family's time-manipulation craft, only to be immediately mistaken for the legendary Witch Vera. Unable to reveal her identity, she must earn the villagers' trust by using her Chrono Alchemy to fulfill their requests—aging fish into jerky, restoring antiques, or even reversing lumber back into living trees.

এই গেম সম্পর্কে

The game is a collaboration between two distinct Atlus pedigrees: director Shigeo Komori, known for the Etrian Odyssey series, and scenario writer Shinichi Yoshiike, the planner behind the early Atelier games. Character designs were provided by Yuji Himukai (Etrian Odyssey), with a soundtrack composed by Michiko Naruke (Wild Arms). This fusion is palpable in the final product—the gentle, deadline-driven rhythm of Atelier paired with the deliberate, occasionally punishing encounter design of Etrian Odyssey.

The central mechanic is Chrono Alchemy (導刻術), which manipulates the time axis of matter. Five colored Chrono Solutions—red, blue, light, dark, and silver—serve as catalysts for transforming items. Ordinary tasks include drying fish or growing off-season fruit, while late-game miracles allow Nora to restore a rusted blade to its original forged state or coax a fallen log back into a sapling. Curiously, some items also evolve passively if left in the atelier, such as black bread hardening into progressively denser—and eventually throwable—variants.

Time is the game's most merciless resource. Every excursion for gathering or combat consumes a day from the three-year limit, and failing to build sufficient bonds before the deadline leads to a bad ending. With fifteen endings determined by relationship values and quest completion, the laid-back pastoral aesthetic masks a genuinely demanding optimization puzzle. Combat is a conventional turn-based affair with visible encounter symbols, featuring a roster of ten playable characters with limited skill pools, functioning more as a supplementary loop to the crafting and social systems than as a deep tactical endeavor.

The game was released in the twilight of the DS lifecycle, just a month before Atlus's first 3DS title, and never received an official Western localization. It maintained a respectable reputation in Japan, commanding high secondhand prices and earning a 4.2/5 on Amazon Japan and an 8.7/10 on Douban from 99 ratings. In April 2022, a complete English fan translation was released, finally making this overlooked time-manipulation RPG accessible to international audiences.
