HackPokémon Ghost Grey is a horror-inspired FireRed hack set in a decayed Kanto, fifty years after the events of Gold, Silver, and Crystal. The year is 2049. The region has fallen into ruin, overrun by ghosts and dangerous figures, while its remaining inhabitants struggle to survive. Explore this hauntingly familiar world, collect over 200 Ghost-type Pokémon, and uncover the dark truth of what happened to Kanto.

Created by Joey Zeed and released in August 2026, Ghost Grey is a complete, full-length adventure that serves as a love letter to the creepypastas and edgy ROM hacks of the late 2000s and early 2010s. The entire game is rendered in striking black and white, a deliberate aesthetic choice that strips all colour from Kanto and matches the region's decay. Every sprite, overworld, and battle animation has been redrawn from scratch in original monochrome artwork.
The game features over 200 Ghost-type Pokémon, including every existing Ghost-type alongside more than 120 original regional variants of familiar Kanto creatures, warped beyond recognition by the catastrophe that befell the region. Seven gyms remain instead of eight, and the story explains what happened to the missing one. A completely original soundtrack by Whale (AmnCordy) includes over 130 songs and jingles written specifically for Ghost Grey.
Mechanically, Ghost Grey modernises the FireRed engine with the Fairy type, the physical/special split, and abilities and items from later generations like Choice Scarf and Eviolite. Quality-of-life features include unlimited TM usage, forgettable HMs, an unlimited Rare Candy key item, a dedicated grinding area called The Fight Club, and a purchasable Exp. Share from the first city. The type chart has been modified: Steel resists Ghost and Dark again, Psychic is no longer weak to Ghost, and Fairy only resists Dragon. EVs, IVs, and breeding have been removed entirely, creating a more streamlined experience. With new moves like Purify, Shatterpoint, Soul Shift, and Jumpscare, Ghost Grey offers a genuinely fresh take on the classic Pokémon formula.
