Macross: Do You Remember Love?
Macross: Do You Remember Love? is a 2D side-scrolling shoot 'em up developed by Scarab and published by Bandai Visual for the PlayStation in 1999. Based on the 1984 anime film of the same name, it is a close adaptation that follows the movie's plot while adding original missions and newly animated cutscenes. Players pilot Hikaru Ichijyo's VF-1 Valkyrie, transforming between Fighter, Gerwalk, and Battroid modes to battle the Zentradi, with enemies that shift between foreground and background planes, requiring missiles to hit.

इस गेम के बारे में
The game was originally released on the Sega Saturn in 1997 to coincide with the Macross franchise's 15th anniversary, then ported to the PlayStation in 1999 with increased difficulty. It is packaged on two CDs, featuring extensive footage from the original film alongside all-new animated sequences, including a movie-quality prologue that expands the story beyond the film's opening.
Gameplay revolves around the VF-1 Valkyrie's three transformation modes. Fighter mode offers speed, Gerwalk provides a balance, and Battroid allows shooting in any direction. Enemies frequently exist on separate foreground and background planes, only crossing into the player's 2D plane briefly, forcing players to rely on micro-missiles and special weapons to hit them. The final battle is uniquely timed to the length of the iconic song "Do You Remember Love?" as Minmay's broadcast must be protected from a jamming satellite.
The story closely follows the 1984 film, with added stages set between movie scenes. A notable addition is a new opening stage set off the coast of South Ataria Island, depicting Skull Squadron's battle before the Macross's space fold. Voice actor Arihiro Hase, who voiced Hikaru, passed away in 1996, so his dialogue in the intro was reused from old recordings. New dialogue was recorded by Mari Iijima, reprising her role as Lynn Minmay.
For decades, the game remained exclusive to Japan. In October 2026, a complete English fan translation was released by pearly-sama, covering both discs' dialogue, menus, and system messages. The translation required extensive reverse engineering of the game's unusual encoded character rendering system, as standard variable-width font methods were not applicable. Some lines were shortened due to the original renderer's limitations, and the FMVs remain unsubtitled.
