About This Retro Game
The game's core mechanic revolves around the 'koma' system. Each character is represented by different types of koma (assist, support, and battle) that are arranged on the DS's bottom screen to form a combat deck. Battle koma become playable fighters, while support and assist koma provide special abilities, buffs, or summon attacks. Building an effective deck from diverse Jump series is key to strategy.
Jump! Ultimate Stars significantly expanded upon its predecessor with a massive roster increase, new game modes including a deep single-player 'J-Adventure' mode, enhanced 4-player wireless battles, and improved touch controls for activating special 'Help Attacks' and managing koma. The game also features an extensive unlock system and cameo appearances from lesser-known Jump series.
Praised for its fan-service, strategic depth, and enjoyable multiplayer, it is considered one of the best crossover fighting games on the DS and a love letter to Shonen Jump's legacy. Despite being Japan-exclusive, it gained a strong international following among import gamers and manga fans.
