Boktai: The Sun is in Your Hand
Boktai: The Sun is in Your Hand is a stealth-action RPG from Hideo Kojima's team that quite literally puts the sun in your hands. Its cartridge contains a solar sensor, and your weapon—the Gun Del Sol—draws its power from real sunlight. Play as Django, a young vampire hunter, and infiltrate the lairs of immortal monsters that can only be destroyed by the light of day.

About This Retro Game
Released by Konami in 2003, Boktai blends top-down stealth with action RPG combat. Django must sneak through labyrinthine dungeons, avoiding enemy detection while positioning himself in patches of sunlight to charge his Solar Gun. In shadow, his weapon is weak; under direct sun, it becomes a devastating blade of light. This mechanical marriage of gameplay and reality was unprecedented on a handheld.
The cartridge's photometric sensor measures actual ambient light. Playing outdoors on a sunny day makes Django stronger, while dim rooms drain his power. The game even tracks the real-world clock, altering enemy strength and available events depending on the time of day. Puzzles require reflecting light with mirrors and manipulating shadows to proceed.
Bosses are the Immortals—vampires and monsters that cannot be killed by ordinary means. Each requires a specific strategy, from purifying their blood with sunlight to sealing them in the Pile Driver. With its striking gothic art style, memorable soundtrack by Norihiko Hibino, and clever integration of hardware, Boktai remains one of the most inventive and beloved curiosities of the GBA library.
