Sega Master System Games Collection
The Sega Master System (SMS), released in 1985 (1986 in North America), was Sega's 8-bit answer to the Nintendo Entertainment System. While it struggled against Nintendo's dominance in Japan and North America, it found remarkable success in Europe, Brazil and other markets. The SMS featured superior hardware to the NES with better color palette (64 colors vs 52), higher resolution (256x192 vs 256x240) and built-in stereo sound. Its library included excellent ports of arcade hits like Out Run and Shinobi, as well as original titles such as Alex Kidd in Miracle World (pre-installed in later models) and Phantasy Star. The system's 3D glasses accessory was innovative for its time. Though discontinued in 1996, the SMS remained popular in Brazil well into the 2000s through licensed Tec Toy production, selling over 20 million units worldwide.
