When possible, the team used original unused assets discovered within the game's code, honouring the developers' intended vision.

These include a Dragon Power Meter that fills 33% faster, basic attacks that are two frames faster for better responsiveness, and a modernised blocking system where holding the block button keeps the guard up indefinitely, rather than requiring timed presses. The R button is also repurposed for blocking.
Additionally, the hack introduces new mechanics, such as allowing enemies to pick up and use dropped weapons. However, one known trade-off is the removal of the background music from the Chinatown stage. The patch can be applied to either the Japanese 'Return of Double Dragon' ROM or the North American 'Super Double Dragon' ROM.
