About This Game
Developed by Capcom's arcade division, Zero 2 Alpha builds upon the successful Alpha 2 formula with faster gameplay, new background stages, and additional frames of animation for all characters. The game features the largest roster in the Alpha series at the time with 18 playable fighters including newcomers Juni and Juli from the Dolls unit.
The Alpha Counter system allows players to spend Super Combo gauge to counterattack during block stun, adding strategic depth to defensive play. This version also introduces the 'Variable Counter' system where different button inputs yield different counterattack moves.
Though never officially released outside Japan, Zero 2 Alpha became highly influential in competitive fighting game circles. Many of its mechanics were later incorporated into Street Fighter III and subsequent titles, cementing its legacy as a pivotal entry in the franchise.
