About This Retro Game
Star Ocean was developed by a team of former Wolfteam members who formed tri-Ace after working on the Tales of Phantasia. The game features a real-time battle system similar to the Tales series but with its own unique mechanics, including character customization through a skill-based system.
Notable for being one of the largest Super Famicom cartridges ever made at 48 megabits, it pushed the console's hardware to its limits with its voice-acted battle cries, pre-rendered cutscenes, and expansive sci-fi storyline that spans multiple planets and time periods.
The game introduced the series' trademark 'Private Actions' system, where player choices during optional conversations affect character relationships and unlock different story scenes. This innovation would become a staple of the series and influence other RPGs.
