About This Retro Game
Pokémon Homestead replaces traditional battles with a focus on care and observation. As a breeder-in-training, you care for Pokémon, keep them happy, and learn about their individual personalities. The core gameplay loop is a matchmaking puzzle: you meet 7 unique trainers with specific requests and must choose the best companion for each from a pool of 11 available Pokémon.
The hack features a complete UI overhaul with a scrapbook aesthetic, designed to fit its cozy objectives. A stylized day/night system uses unique palettes for specific times of day, affecting both maps and overworld sprites. Every visual element is custom-made in a Gen 3 adjacent style, complemented by hand-drawn character portraits with multiple expressions inspired by GBA and DS games.
Inspired by media like Pokémon Breeder Mini, My Pokémon Ranch, and Pokémon Concierge, this hack was created as a competition entry for TARC3. The game is designed to be accessible and relaxing, with no difficult challenges, making it a perfect pick-up-and-play experience for anyone who enjoys the slice-of-life side of the Pokémon world.
