About This Retro Game
Created by DarkPrinceAlucard over approximately two years, Simon's Legacy replaces Jonathan and Charlotte with three playable interpretations of Simon Belmont—his Super Castlevania IV appearance and his two versions from the PlayStation Chronicles game. Each patch offers a different visual take on the character, accompanied by new stage layouts, classic stages ported from previous Castlevania titles, and a completely new soundtrack.
The hack introduces a revised story that acts as a sequel to Simon's Quest, alongside new palette colours, character portraits, weapons, and enemy sprites. A new difficulty setting aims to convey a true mixture of classicvania and metroidvania, combining demanding platforming with the RPG and level-up systems of Portrait of Ruin. Players can expect different environments and routes through the game rather than a straightforward replay.
Simon's Legacy takes inspiration from other celebrated overhaul hacks such as Rondo of Ruin, Circle of the Realm, and Dawn of Dissonance. It represents a labour of love from a dedicated fan aiming to create Simon Belmont's version of Symphony of the Night. A minor bug when obtaining the true Vampire Killer can be fixed by saving and reloading. The hack requires a compatible Portrait of Ruin (USA) ROM and patching software.
