About This Retro Game
Heavily inspired by TheSmithPlays' Crystal Legacy and the PRET pokecrystal tutorials, Pokemon Core Crystal is best described as a 'Crystal Legacy'-style experience with the creator's own improvements and preferences. The goal was to preserve the feel of the original Crystal while adding modern quality-of-life updates to make it more enjoyable today.
The hack introduces the Fairy type as a Special type, implements a partial Physical/Special split (Ghost as Special, Dark as Physical), and adds several new Pokemon including Togekiss, Honchkrow, Sylveon, Mismagius, and Weavile. Many existing Pokemon have rebalanced stats and updated typings — Typhlosion becomes Fire/Ground, Meganium becomes Grass/Fairy, and Feraligatr becomes Water/Dark.
All legendary Pokemon including Lugia, Ho-oh, Mew, Mewtwo, the Kanto birds, and Celebi are obtainable, many before the Elite Four. Trade evolutions have been removed and replaced with new in-game methods. A toggleable Gen 6-style Exp. Share Key Item has been added, and the shiny encounter rate is boosted to 1/1024 after encountering Suicune.
Gym Leaders, the Elite Four, and your Rival all feature reworked, more challenging teams with rematch options. Overworld improvements include the restored Viridian Forest, HM moves that no longer need to be taught, faster Nurse Joy healing, an expanded item bag, a Move Relearner, and the ability to fish while surfing.
