Metal Slug 7 is a run and gun shooter developed by SNK Playmore for the Nintendo DS. Released in 2008, it continues the classic arcade-style action of the Metal Slug series with new missions, weapons, and the debut of the Ralf & Clark team combo. Metal Slug 7 introduces a mission-based structure with 7 main stages and multiple routes. New features include the Weapon Stock System allowing players to carry multiple firearms and the Skill System that grants special abilities based on performance.
The game marks the series' first appearance on Nintendo DS, utilizing both screens for gameplay (top for action, bottom for map/weapon selection). It includes all classic Metal Slug elements - tanks (Slugs), hostages, POW rescues, and exaggerated enemy deaths.
While criticized for being shorter than console versions, Metal Slug 7 was praised for faithfully translating the arcade experience to handheld. It later received an enhanced Xbox 360 release as Metal Slug XX.
