Double Dragon Zeebo MD
HackDouble Dragon Zeebo MD is a homebrew port that brings the 2009 Zeebo-exclusive remake of Double Dragon to the Sega Mega Drive / Genesis. Developed by RJ Games and carachapadu using SGDK, this project adapts the expanded Zeebo version—with its six missions, new enemies, and deeper combo system—to Sega's 16-bit hardware. It is not a port of the 1987 arcade original, but rather a faithful attempt to preserve a largely lost piece of Double Dragon history on a classic console.

About This Retro Game
The Zeebo version of Double Dragon was developed by Brizo Interactive and published by Tectoy in 2009 for the ill-fated Brazilian download-only console. It reimagined the arcade classic with four additional missions (six total), entirely new enemy characters, more detailed 16-bit-style graphics, and an expanded combat system featuring juggles and extensive combo strings. Because the Zeebo platform was discontinued and its digital storefront shut down, this remake became difficult to access, making preservation efforts like this homebrew port significant.
Double Dragon Zeebo MD is built with SGDK (Sega Genesis Development Kit) and maps the expanded move set onto the Genesis's three-button controller. A punches, B kicks, and C jumps, with combinations unlocking crouching attacks, elbow strikes, hurricane kicks, running attacks, and grabs. The project is currently in active development, with version 2 addressing crashes in later stages, collision detection for weapons like whips and bats, damage recovery timing, and a complete music replacement featuring arrangements with more instruments.
The homebrew is offered on a pay-what-you-want basis via itch.io in three language editions: Portuguese, English, and Spanish. Each download is approximately 1.1 to 1.2 MB. The developer notes that the game has been tested on real hardware, though some controller compatibility issues have been reported with certain third-party pads. The project continues to receive updates, making it a notable example of the homebrew community preserving and adapting a nearly inaccessible commercial release.
