About This Game
This 1989 Konami release was groundbreaking as one of the first licensed games to achieve commercial success, despite its notorious difficulty. Players switch between all four turtles, each with different weapons and attributes.
The game alternates between side-scrolling platform levels and overhead-view exploration stages where players navigate the sewers and streets of NYC. The iconic Turtle Van and Turtle Blimp vehicle levels were particularly innovative for their time.
Though criticized for its punishing difficulty (especially the infamous dam level), the game was a major hit, selling over 4 million copies and spawning numerous sequels. It established the TMNT franchise as a video game powerhouse.
